Dad

Posted: June 11, 2012 in Uncategorized

MADD recently started a new advertising campaign, the tagline…Some of the best Mothers, are Fathers. It is a catchy tagline, but it is also true. With Father’s Day less than a week away, it is the perfect time to think about just what an impact Father’s can have.

Do you remember hearing this one as a child, “Wait until your Father gets home!” I know I do. It was such a scary threat, mainly because I knew by that point that I was in trouble and my Dad would be the one handing out punishment, for me, usually in the form of the words, “I am so disappointed in you.”  But, those words kept me from making a lot of bad decisions in my youth. And I know I am not the only one. So many of us have amazing Dad’s. The kind of Dad who helped guide you and helped you to make the right choices in life. Father’s day is our day to thank them and remind them that they have the power to influence their children’s decisions.

As a group named for Mother’s people often forget that our message is for Father’s too! And some of our best volunteers and supporters, are Dad’s. Dad’s who want to make the roads safe for their kids. We know there are more Dad’s out there that want to do the same thing, maybe some Dad’s who didn’t think they could volunteer with us because they are not Mothers. More importantly, we want all the Dad’s out there to think about the power they have as parents to prevent underage drinking. As for the rest of us, well, we all  have an important job to do today to make a difference, tell your Dad just how wonderful you think he is and wish him a very happy Father’s Day.
